Studies - Food Base Chromium

Studies carried out by J.A. Vinson in the USA indicate that Food Base Chromium is more bio available than isolated chemical Chromium at 100%. Results show the Food Base product has 258% greater biological activity compared to inorganic chromium. In addition significant long term benefits are demonstrable in hyperglycaemic human subjects blood cholesterol.

Studies carried out on Chromium are:

1. Vinson J.A. and Hsiao, K-H., "Comparative Effect of Various Forms of Chromium on Serum Glucose: An Assay for Biologically Active Chromium", Nutritional Reports International, 32, (1), 1985.

'These findings demonstrate that inorganic chromium is biologically active in man, but chromium in the form of synthetic complexes or high chromium yeast is much more active.'

2. Vinson J.A. and Bose, P., "The Effect of a High Chromium yeast on the Blood Glucose control and Blood Lipids of Normal and Diabetic Human Subjects", Nutritional Reports International, 30, (4), 1984.

'The Hyperglycaemic group was found to have improved blood glucose control, lowered serum lipids and a decreased risk of coronary heart disease after supplementation with High Chromium yeast.'

3. Cook, R. and Benton, D., "Chromium supplementation improves chronic headaches: A Case Study", Journal of Nutritional Medicine, 3, 61-64, 1992.

'Chromium was found to be the active ingredient in reducing the effects of chronic headaches.'

4. Vinson J.A.; Bose P.; Lemoine L. and Hsaio K., 1989 in Southgate D.A.T.; Johnson I.T. and Fenwick G.R., (Eds.), Nutrient Availability: Chemical and Biological Aspects, 125-127, Royal Society of Chemistry, Thomas Graham House, Cambridge, U.K.

'Yeast trace elements and natural vitamins are more slowly absorbed in animals and man; are more bioavailable; and are therefore the preferred form for supplementation.'

5. Vinson, J.A. and Bose, P., "Comparison of the Bioavailability of Trace Elements in Inorganic salts, Amino Acid Chelates and Yeast", Proceeding on Mineral Elements, 615-621, 1981.

'The Relative bioavailability in both blood and liver was yeast "> inorganic "> chelate. Results show that the yeast is the most bioavailable form of the element. It is thus concluded that yeast is the best form for trace element supplementation.'

6. Vinson, J.A., "Chromium Toxicity Study", Unpublished Data, 1981.
