Discovery Health Food Supplements are based on one basic and simple premise: a food supplement should be as close to a natural food as is possible.

For the past few decades, most vitamin and mineral supplements have been pure manufactured chemicals.

Most vitamins like Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Niacin (Vitamin B3), are derived from un-natural molecular structures.

As the vitamin evolution continued, chemists have attempted to use chemical combinations to bring a natural "Time-released" vitamin.

Unfortunately, these products needed to futher adulterate the vitamins by using additional tabletting agents.

With Discovery Health Vitamins, the vitamins are naturally time released because they are food based materials.

Common sense tells us that a vitamin or mineral in a food base, with the peptides, amino-acids, lipids and carbohydrates intact, is likely to be better than chemically derived vitamins.

Many studies have been performed which prove the obvious ... there is wisdom in nature!

Chemically Speaking

The body is designed to consume bound nutrients, not detached and synthesised chemicals. If vitamins and minerals are taken in a suitably bound state, they are likely to be better absorbed, retained and utilized than if they are consumed as isolated chemicals.

Many chemicals found in synthesized vitamins interact when put together. Discovery Health's complexed supplements are non-interactive and can be included in the same tablet.

It is well established that taking supplemental vitamins and minerals can have important benefits when the diet is inadequate. If, however, the user can take these nutrients in a more available form, these benefits can be substantially increased.

Discovery Health Food Supplements are a combination of unique materials. The key materials are produced in yeast cultive or a "reaction" process. The vitamins and minerals are bonded and in the presence of native peptides, fats and carbohydrates in fruits, grain and vegetable extracts.

The Growth Process: All minerals and Vitamin D

The growth process is based upon two fundamentals of agriculture and human nutrition.

  • Earth minerals are used by vegetation as part of their normal metabolism.

  • Earth minerals become "food minerals" when the plant incorporates the mineral into its complex cell structure which consists of native proteins, lipids and carbohydrates - even when the plant does not require that mineral.

  • To mimic this industrially, live yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is cultured in a high nutrient medium containing the specific mineral salt.

As the yeast plant grows, it assimilates the mineral into its cell. Once the cultive is mature, proteolytic enzymes are introduced to terminate growth and hydrolyse the yeast to ensure optimum digestibility and non-allergenic reactiveness. The material is then spray-dried, assayed and released for tabletting. Each batch is issued with a Certificate of Analysis.

The Reaction Process: All vitamins except Vitamin D.

This method overcomes the problem in producing vitamins bonded, and in a food base, that rules out the Growth Process described above. That problem is that living yeast will metabolise any vitamin (other than the vitamin D) it absorbs from the nutrient cultive. The Reaction Process carefully applies particular conditions of pressure and temperature that are conducive to vitamins bonding, without degrading them chemically.

The ingredients in the Reaction Process are specific blends of native plant extracts (alfalfa, citrus, soy meal and carrot) and the vitamin with which they are naturally associated. A native plant extract is obtained by whole food extract and it contains native complexes of phospholipids, phosphoproteins, glycoproteins etc. Specific B.P. vitamins are used. After the Reaction Process the material is spray-dried, its vitamin content verified and its bonding confirmed by spectrophotometry, chromatography, infra-red and H.P.L.C. Each batch is issued with an Assay Certificate.
