Motivation Ironman

Welcome to the fifth of our webclips about Ironman.

2014 Ironman World Champion Sebastian Kienle and 2 times European Champion Timo Bracht explain the motivation behind doing Ironman triathlon.

With the inconceivable distances consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, it's one of the most physically and mentally demanding endurance sports in the world.

Both athletes reveal how they motivate themselves to clock up more than 20,000 kilometers of training in a year and how even they sometimes question what they are doing. They also explain the secrets behind overcoming the ‘dark periods’ in races, those moments when their bodies tell them to stop, but their minds urge them to carry on and cross the Ironman finish line.
