How to limit your chances of developing type 2 diabetes

in General 18 August 2015

As you get older, you can become more susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes. However, there are a few ways and things you can do to make sure you have as less of a chance of developing the illness as possible. We spoke with DTS Buyers, an expert in the healthcare industry (more specifically in the diabetes sector) about some of the ways you can limit your exposure to getting the illness, and this is what they told us. First of all, keeping at a healthy weight is vital to living a healthy life and there are two main ways you can do this. Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Lets have a look at these two further things in more detail.

Exercise

Regular exercise is vital for a good and healthy lifestyle which in turn will keep your weight at the optimum level. This doesn't mean you have to become a gym bunny and practically live there. What it does mean is that occasionally instead of driving to work, how about walking? Instead of taking the lift, why not take the stairs? It's important to stay active, especially if you work in an office and sit at a desk 24-7 five days a week, so doing these everyday tasks will only add to that. If you have time to go to the gym, then that's an added bonus! You could even just go for a 20 minute run. It's free and easy to do!

Diet

Along with plenty of exercise, healthy eating is another vital part of having an active and healthy lifestyle. No one is saying you can't have a cheeky Nandos every now and again, just don't make it your go to meal three times a day! Try to eat your 5 fruits and vegetables per day and try to stay away from foods that are too sugary, too salty and too fatty. Don't forget, you can eat pretty much any food (everything is allowed) you want but just eat it in moderation! A good balanced diet is the key to a healthy lifestyle. If you want to follow a particular diet that is known to provide a good balance of all the various nutrients required, look up the Mediterranean diet which is extremely popular in the, you guessed it, Mediterranean!
